This year marks an important anniversary, 60 years since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. In the music world, 2020 also marks the 250 th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, celebrates and honours the landmark anniversary of Cyprus Independence, as well as Beethoven Year 2020 with two “heroic” works by the great composer: his 3 rd Symphony, the “Eroica” and Egmont overture. Both composed during the first decade of the 19 th century are most fitting for the occasion: Egmont overture exalts the heroic sacrifice of Count Egmont for the independence of his nation, whilst the masterful “Eroica” exalts the resilience of the human spirit.
