How about a musical trip to the world of myths and fairytales? The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and maestro Lisa Xanthopoulou have chosen three works that will stimulate your imagination with musical stories about brave knights, a French King, and a beautiful water nymph, the Fair Melusine! Beethoven’s ballet music describes the enthusiasm of Germans in the Middle Ages for war, hunting, love and drinking in eight short pantomimes. In also eight movements, Delibes sets to music Victor Hugo’s play Le roi s’amuse. Our musical stories conclude with Melusine, a water nymph who marries Count Raymond, under the condition that he would not enter her room on Saturday, the day she takes on the form of a mermaid.
L. v. Beethoven: Musik zu einem Ritterballet (Music for a ballet of knights)
L. Delibes: Le roi s’amuse (The king amuses himself) incidental music (Six dance tunes in the old style)
