An exciting musical discovery of the Symphony, one of the most significant orchestral musical genres in classical music!
Through samples of popular symphonies by the greatest composers of the genre, we will make a journey of 130 years: from the classical composers Joseph Haydn (the father of the symphony) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the end of the 18ου c. to the «romantics» Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert in the 19th c. up to the Russian Sergei Prokofiev at the beginning of the 20th c. We begin by showcasing the «standard classical» movements of a Symphony: fast, slow, Minuet and Finale as well as their musical characteristics. Then, through the example of Prokofiev’s «Classical» symphony we will show how these movements combine to form a unified work.
