Nicos Ioannou was born in 1974 in Lefkosia. At the age of eight he started guitar lessons at the Ethnikon Odeion, Cyprus. At the age of 16, while continuing with his guitar lessons, he started double bass tuition with Panos Panayi, as well as flute lessons. During the same year he joined the Cyprus Youth State Orchestra as a double bass player. He continued with higher music studies at the age of twenty with professor Alexandros Tzoumanis, and six years later he graduated from the Athens Odeion with distinction. He also obtained the L.G.S.M.D. of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, also with distinction. He has worked with various orchestras as principal double bass player, such as the Athens Odeion Symphony Orchestra and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (1999- today). Αs sub-principal double bassist he has collaborated with the Symphony Orchestra of Rethymnon in Crete and the Piraeus Symphony Orchestra, and as a tutti player with the E.R.T. Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of Colours. As a soloist, Mr Ioannou has appeared in Schubert’s “The Trout”, a performance that was awarded, and with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra in Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale. Apart from his activity as an orchestral player, Mr Iaonnou gives recitals and participates in chamber music concerts with various ensembles.
Patrick Gallois leads a highly successful international career as soloist and conductor. From the age of 17 he studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris Conservatory, and at 21 he was appointed 1st flute of the Orchestre National de France under Music Director Lorin Maazel. He has worked under the direction of such legendary conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Eugen Jochum, Sergio Selibidache and others. In 1984 Gallois left his orchestra positions to focus on his solo career. He regularly performs and records with such conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Lorin Maazel and Antal Dorati and in chamber music formations with Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutman, Linsday Quartet and formerly with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Lily Laskine. He is frequently invited to perform with major orchestras throughout Europe and Asia (Fabio Biondi, Monte Carlo Philarmonic Orchestra, Capitole de Toulouse, Sinfonia Varsovia, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss, London Mozart Players), as well as at international music festivals such as The Proms, Monte Carlo Printemps des Arts, Theatre des Champs- Elysees. His repertoire is extremely varied with a strong taste for contemporary music. He has performed the world premiere of many flute concerti by composers from all over the world, many of which have been dedicated to Patrick Gallois himself. For the last 12 years, since the creation of his own orchestra in Paris, “L’ Academie de Paris”, Patrick Gallois has developed a conducting career which has taken him to Japan (Tokio Chamber Orchestra), Finland (Oulu, Kuopio and Juvaskyla), Italy (Orchestra di Padova, I Pomeriggi Musicali and Orchestra del Lazio di Roma), California (The Monterrey Symphony), Portugal, Israel (Israel Chamber Orchestra), Roumania (Cluj), Bulgaria and France. Patrick Gallois was appointed Musical Director of Sinfonia Finlandia Jyvaskyla (Finland) for the Season 2003. Since then, he has toured with the orchestra in France (2003), Poland and Japan (2004), France-Spain 2005, Spain (2006), Germany and Japan (2006- 2007).
