Czech composer Georg Druschetzky’s delightful Partita in C major for 6 timpani is one of several compositions requiring six to eight timpani, obviously owing to his background as a military musician and virtuoso timpanist. In her Four orchestral miniatures, Cypriot composer Artemis Aifotiti explores orchestral sound colours. Written at a time when Schubert was deeply impressed by Mozart’s music, his 5th Symphony has the classical elegance and finesse so characteristic of his predecessor’s music.
