This beautifully put together programme starts off with the atmospheric solo flute composition by Cypriot composer Artemis Aifotiti. This is suitably followed by Poulenc’s melodically profuse, colourful and at the same time profound flute and clarinet sonatas. Shostakovich and Saint-Saens were inspired to compose dance pieces for the rare combination of flute, clarinet and piano. Shostakovich invites the listener to swirl away with a set of four delightful character waltzes, whilst Saint-Saens, who had a special flair for folk dance forms, dazzles us with his witty tarantella.
