The CySO gives platform to the new generation of Cypriot musicians for the third consecutive year. The opera La Dame blanche wasthe greatest masterpiece of the phenomenally successful opera composer Boildieu. Saint-Saens presents two baroque dances in romantic guise. The hugely popular Zigeunerweisen by the violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate, encapsulates the Hungarian Gypsy spirit with elegance and impressive virtuosity. Prodigiously gifted, Fanny Mendelssohn – the eldest sister of Felix Mendelssohn – wrote hundreds of works. Her only known orchestral work has a special splendour as well as delicacy. Spontaneity, virtuoso pyrotechnics and magnificent lyricism characterize Mendelssohn’s 1st piano concerto.
