Called ‘a magnetic presence’ and ‘a constantly fascinating sound technician’ (New York Classical Review), violinist Alena Baeva is considered one of the most exciting, versatile, and alluring soloists active on the world stage today.
The celebrated violinist collaborates with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the charismatic, much sought-after conductor Zoi Tsokanou, to perform Mendelssohn’s iconic Violin Concerto in E Minor. The evening also includes two other gems of the Romantic musical ideal: Mendelssohn’s Die schöne Melusine – inspired by a popular legend from medieval European folklore – and Farrenc’s little-known Symphony no. 3. The French composer Louise Farrenc, who in her life was admired by giants like Schumann and Berlioz, presented us with a delightful symphony as impressively energetic and structurally satisfying as any of Mendelssohn’s or Schumann’s symphonic works. Exploring this unjustly overlooked work would be a true delight.
