Promoting contemporary Cypriot music creation – one of the main objectives of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra – is of vital importance for the musical life of our country.
The CySO, under the direction of Christina Athinodorou, interprets works by four distinguished Cypriot composers: Ayis Ioannides, Tasos Stylianou, Andys Skordis and Christina Athinodorou. Their work connects the past with the present and reveals their personal quests, experimentations and preoccupations. The diversity of their compositions in terms of inspiration, musical aesthetics and techniques, offer a rich and exciting soundscape.
The programme rounds off with Béla Bartók’s Divertimento for string orchestra.
Ayis Ioannides: Of early dawn
Tasos Stylianou: Green line
Andys Skordis: I…ZO (movt 2)
Christina Athinodorou: Naked branches, I for string orchestra (2006)
