Celebration Concert for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821
As part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents a special programme under the direction of the eminent conductor Michalis Economou. The concert opens with Nikos Skalkottas’ Greek Dances, an iconic work of 20th century Greek symphonic music and closes with a selection of Cypriot traditional songs, arranged and orchestrated by the distinguished conductor and composer Alkis Baltas.
“Cyprus and the light of 1821” for baritone and string orchestra with baritone soloist Marcos Kleovoulou is the centerpiece of this concert, a special commission of Cypriot poet Kyriakos Charalambides and Cypriot composer Constantinos Y. Stylianou by the Cypriot Committee for the celebrations of the 200th) Anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.
